….For those who’s wisdom is not-so-conventional….but wisdom nonetheless…
Question #1: Who in the $@#x! writes those useless user manuals in the boxes with a new wireless phone??? Jeez Lou-eez.?? Why do the cellular manuals included with your new wireless phone seem thoroughly useless?? It doesn’t seem that the subjects written about even make sense in relation to the product.
Answer Rule #1: Don’t read the books that come with the cell phone manufacturer first. This is the material you need to read. Have you ever heard the expression, “there must be something missing in the translation?……”. This is quite literally what has happened. ‘Nuff said. I used to quip that between my associates and I we could write a better user manual than what’s in the boxes with your new cell phone. Well, that quip has become what you are reading. You may say, “well, that’s a pretty arrogant thing to say”. No disrespect to you people who write cellular phone user manuals, I’m sure you take great pride in what you do, but I have seen it consistently on the consumer-end. They miss the mark.
Answer Rule #2: Don’t be afraid to play around with your new wireless phone. Cellular phones are almost impossible to “break” or mess up really bad unless you really try hard and know how to mess them up. There was a time when you could do just that if you weren’t careful, but gone are the old days of cellular phones. The worst thing that might happen is you have 3 listings for Aunt Mable in your address book. At least you’ll be able to find her phone number. Heck, put 7 more listings in there for her, that way for all you Aunt Mable’s out there, we’ll never lose your number. When you get a new cellular phone, sit down with it when you are watching your favorite TV show or a ball game, and peruse the menu’s. This is the best way to familiarize yourself with what you will want to access later, and what you won’t. If you just want to make phone calls with your wireless phone, then only get familiar with the things that relate to that. If you want to have access to e-mails then get familiar with that……and so on….and so on. Try not to have the attitude, “I hate this thing”. That will get you nowhere. In the wireless phone industry the only constant is change, and the wireless phone is here to stay, so let’s get used to it.
Look for my next blog…….I’ll never wear that @$#x! thing on my ear. ‘Til then, TTFN
Creation of this blog……This blog was designed to be a Q & A for the Costco member who can’t seem to get around to ask the wireless phone guy or gal about the issue they are having and finding solutions. I hope you will find it helpful and please feel free to post your comments if you like. I used to joke around with my coworkers in Costco that someday we would run a class on Saturday mornings on the porch like you would see at the Home Depot on how to lay tile in your bathroom, or how to (….insert project here)
This is that class, and you don’t have to get up early on a Saturday and go to the Home Depot. We will delve into issues like cell phone radiation protection (the myth-the legend), electromagnetic protection, roaming and why did it take me a week to get that text, possibly a review or two, guest columnists and wireless industry return policies. If you are a Sam’s Club member and you go into a Sam’s Club or if you’re a Costco member and you shop for wireless phones at your local Costco Warehouse, make sure to ask about the return policy for their wireless phones and bluetooth products. Their return policies have changed recently, so don’t be blind-sided. I will also give some straight talk regarding why wireless companies don’t give you squat when you have been a loyal customer of theirs for 700 years. (Is that possible??). We will run the gamut as far as topics, and finding solutions. Wireless phones and the cell phone industry has become the industry we love to hate, but look where it has brought us.
